‘Crafting Identities’, An Exhibition By Hannah Benassi

The third in a series of exhibitions hosted by Strathberry, showcasing the work of Scottish artists, Strathberry are delighted to launch ‘Crafting Identities’, the latest collection of work by Hannah Benassi.

Hannah Benassi is an artist and designer from Edinburgh. Since graduating in Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Benassi has been awarded the Farquar Reid Trust prize for her explorative use of mediums and the Saatchi Arts Rising star award.

Removing conceptional restrictions, Benassi’s work evolves intuitively with her experimental approach to painting, into which she weaves together inspiration from her travels to create modern day landscapes. Absorbing surface textures of old town ruins, shifting shades and shadows of the soft summer light, Benassi translates these snapshot moments through her layering of textiles and non-traditional painting mediums.

Created exclusively for Strathberry, ‘Crafting Identities’ explores the idea of Benassi’s value for interdisciplinary influences. Encouraging individuality and uncertainties, Benassi’s collection of paintings thread together sculptural forms, fluidity of monoprinting and layering of calico fabric and washes of clay.

Often inspired by her travels to Italy, Benassi’s use of a rustic, earthy and pastel tones beautifully complement Strathberry’s AW’23 colour palette of rich and creamy colours, that she has incorporated into her paintings.

Working simultaneously across individual surfaces, Benassi presents a collection of original artworks that displays her explorative landscape of contemporary painting where she creates a balance of structural details in soft settings.
